Sergei Kravinoff, also known as Kraven, is a well-known enemy of Spider-Man. He was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and is one of the original members of the Sinister Six. Kraven was first hinted at in the 2014 movie “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”. In Marvel Comics, Kraven is a Russian noble who moved to America in 1917 due to the February Revolution. He becomes a skilled hunter and eventually chooses Spider-Man as his ultimate prey to prove himself as the top hunter in the world. Marc Webb, the director of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”, expressed interest in bringing Kraven to the big screen.
Sony started considering a movie about Kraven in 2017. Richard Wenk was hired to write the script for “Kraven the Hunter” in August 2018, and Sony confirmed the film’s development in March 2019. Interestingly, Ryan Coogler, the director of the MCU’s “Black Panther”, wanted to include Kraven before discovering Sony had the film rights. The new movie will introduce Kraven into Sony’s superhero universe.
Is There a Trailer for Kraven the Hunter?
Regarding the trailer for “Kraven the Hunter”, the first one was released on June 19, 2023. It’s a three-minute video showing Kraven’s beginnings, including a scene where he gains animal-like powers from a lion, adding a new element to the Spider-Man stories.
Who Is in the Cast of Kraven the Hunter?
As for the cast, Sony considered actors like Brad Pitt, Keanu Reeves, John David Washington, and Adam Driver for Kraven. But they were quickly impressed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the “Bullet Train” trailer and chose him for the role. Taylor-Johnson, known for his roles in “Kick-Ass”, its sequel, and as Pietro Maximoff in “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, agreed to play Kraven in future movies.
Jodie Turner-Smith was rumored for the role of Calypso, Kraven’s love interest and a voodoo priestess, but Ariana DeBose, an Academy Award winner, was eventually cast. She’s known for her roles in “West Side Story”, “The Prom”, and “Schmigadoon!”.
The main villain, Rhino, will be played by Alessandro Nivola, known for “Face/Off”, “Amsterdam”, “Spin Me Round”, and other films. Christopher Abbott, recognized for his roles in “The Sinner” and “Girls”, will play another villain, the Foreigner.
Fred Hechinger joined the cast as Chameleon, Kraven’s half-brother and Spider-Man’s first-ever comic book enemy. He’s skilled in disguises and has appeared in “Eighth Grade”, “News of the World”, and “The Woman in the Window”. Kodi Smit-McPhee was considered for this role but declined.
Russell Crowe, an Academy Award-winning actor, will portray Kraven’s father. Crowe has played in superhero movies before, like “Man of Steel” and “Thor: Love & Thunder”. Levi Miller will play a young Kraven.
