Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen in “House of the Dragon,” hinted on a podcast that the show’s second season might come out in August, which is different from the earlier mentioned “early summer 2024” release. Smith also mentioned they’ve finished filming but still need to do some post-production work like ADR, a process to improve dialogue quality.
The official release date for season 2 isn’t out yet, but fans know it’s set for this summer. The show, a prequel to “Game of Thrones,” was quickly renewed for a second season after its first episode aired in August 2022. The season 1 finale was in October 2022.
A teaser for the new season came out in November 2023, showing ongoing conflicts in the Targaryen family. The show wasn’t affected by the 2023 strikes in the industry because the scripts were ready before the Writers Guild strike, and most actors are from the U.K., so they weren’t impacted by Hollywood’s Screen Actors Guild restrictions.
George R. R. Martin, the show’s co-creator, said they are already planning seasons 3 and 4. He had detailed discussions about these future seasons with the writing team but felt they needed more time to cover everything.
