Sony is adding to its Spider-Man series with the star-studded cast of the Madame Web movie. This film is a new part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and follows after films like Venom and Morbius. Unlike those films, Madame Web does not prominently feature Peter Parker or Spider-Man. Instead, it focuses on Madame Web, a character linked to Spider-Man who might influence the whole multiverse of spider-themed heroes.
In the comic books, Madame Web (Cassandra Webb) is a mutant with psychic powers, capable of seeing the future and different realities. She has guided Spider-Man and other spider-themed heroes like Julia Carpenter and Jessica Drew. Madame Web connects deeply to the universe’s mystical elements and might even bridge Sony’s Spider-Man movies with the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, much like Doctor Strange does in the MCU. The Madame Web movie will introduce several new characters.
Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb/Madame Web
Dakota Johnson, famous for her role in Fifty Shades of Grey, takes on the lead role of Cassandra Webb in the Madame Web movie. While comic fans know Madame Web as an older, visually impaired woman, Johnson portrays a younger version, allowing for a more dynamic and action-focused character. Dakota Johnson has appeared in various films and is the daughter of well-known actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith.
Sydney Sweeney as Julia Carpenter/Spider-Woman
Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in Euphoria, plays Julia Carpenter, the second Spider-Woman in the comics. Sweeney has acted in several notable films and TV shows. Her character, Julia Carpenter, inherits her powers from the original Spider-Woman, Jessica Drew, and later takes on the role of Madame Web, leading a team of spider-heroes.
Celeste O’Connor as Mattie Franklin/Spider-Woman
Celeste O’Connor, an emerging actor, portrays Mattie Franklin, another Spider-Woman from the comics. O’Connor has appeared in various films and is set to reprise a role in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Mattie Franklin’s character has connections to other key figures in the Spider-Man universe, potentially setting up exciting appearances in the movie.
Isabela Merced as Anya Corazón/Araña/Spider-Girl
Isabela Merced, a well-known actress, plays Anya Corazón, also known as Spider-Girl and Araña. Merced began her career with voice roles in Nickelodeon shows and gained fame with roles in movies like Transformers: The Last Knight. Her character, Anya Corazón, brings another version of Spider-Girl to the film, adding to the diverse range of spider-powered characters.
